Transition 2020: Who or what is this fight about?

We are witnessing a fight without contestants, without victors, yet with plenty of victims.

How can this be?

From analogies to Belarus — marginally valid — to “blame gaming “ the Democratic Party leadership once again finds themselves in the position of countermanding a flood of Trump fantasies. The word “phantasmagoria” comes to mind.

Halloween, the virtual costume show, may have passed. The scary part remains.

How does the White House and the Senate kiddie show continue to hold the election narrative? Our celebratory sigh of relief at the Biden-Harris victory has been snatched from us. What quickly follows is the same ole’ angst.

Let’s get real. Our collective voices and plans and visions and futures are being played by the smart ass in the back of the classroom nodding his head and smirking.

“Told ‘ya so.”

This is the voice that likes to dress the contenders before the rules of engagement have been shared. Before the proverbial glove pump and the ringing bell.

We don’t know what the fight is about; we only know who the fighters are.

Is this governing in a pandemic? Is our fawning over the practices of power grabbing building a future for us?

We are delegating our hope to a city of lawyers and pundits “to work out.”
