Your comment reminded me hat one of the independent art schools which I attended - the New York School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture - was founded on your premise that contemporary art education lacks technical preparation. In case you missed it, I am referring to an article in Art News (September 1963) by Mercedes Matter, which brought interest to your position about current art education and its limitations. Matter went on to secure funding from the Ford Foundation to create a school of working artists sharing their "technique," and their critical eye. Students from Pratt and the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts left their respective schools and joined her. Today the "Studio School," as far as I know. is thriving.
