Normalcy, Division, Control

August 9

Two news events of the past week bookend a sinister state of repression in America. For those of us who consider that “Trump is the tip of the iceberg,” read on.

For those who do not, feel free to sliver back under your rock.

The first is the defeat in Ohio of a Republican Party effort to require a 60% threshold on passing an amendment to the state Constitution.

Consider this outcome from a statistical perspective. A twenty percent needed “swing margin” for protection of women’s rights in Ohio was blocked by a 13% margin of the voting public. That’s a difference of 7%, narrow enough to prompt a retry in ’24, when Trump will be on the ballot in Ohio.

The second is the attempt by Trump’s lawyers to change the January 6 Conspiracy trial venue from Washington, DC to Truth Social and Newsmax.

Let’s channel our cheering (Ohio) and our outrage (Trump Attorney John Lauro) and contemplate the state of repression in America.

Normalcy

Consider that if the January 6 Conspiracy Trial is a “political trial” and the evidence is compelling that it is — Trump has been a declared and favorite Republican candidate since last November — then is it not repression to forbid his comments about the indictments on his social media platform? Is he not protected by the First Amendment?

This is not normal.

Of course, it’s not. But then again, Trump is special.

Division

Consider that the voters reflect the will of the legislature in Ohio which is — due to gerrymandering — disproportionately split between Democrats and Republicans. Doesn’t it make sense to raise the bar from simple majority to 60% on amendments which have a social impact?

It’s the Constitution after all.

I mean… it’s gotta’ be more than 50% right?

Control

Consider “weaponize.” It’s not a word you’ve heard. Some argue it’s not a word at all, but heh, these are special times, right? (1) Look at what’s happening from “our” perspective. The country is falling apart: Congress can’t agree on anything; the economy is tanking; our kids are getting brain washed; China is listening to us on our phones.

What’s going on? We need to stop having this stuff being done to us. It’s unacceptable.

Normal.

So we have to find the people who are causing this chaos. Not you or me. Them.

Division.

So have your Ohio or Jack Smacky-Wacky.

We’re coming after you.
