The disinformation campaign is underway.

A recent article in The New York Times characterized the Republican Re-elect Trump campaign strategy as comprising three legs: inflation, immigration and ‘family rights.’ (1) Apparently, a fourth leg is missing, “law and order.” (Tough to work that one when your candidate is a convicted felon running against a former State AG.)

Those issues are being misrepresented to the American electorate. This we know.

What perhaps we don’t appreciate enough is that the Trump campaign disinformation strategy (2) is centered on removing trust in the 2024 election. He and his allies would have us convinced that our voting to produce a duly elected Chief Executive is a joke.

On multiple fronts we can thank the US Supreme Court for bringing us here. First there was the ruling which produced a cascade of dark money in elections (Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 2010). Next there was the ruling which rolled back election integrity (Shelby County v Holder, 2013). Add to that the ruling which interfered with state overview of federal elections (Bush v Gore, 2000). And most recently, the court opinion to immunize a President from committing criminal acts, when performing ‘duties of the office of the presidency’ — whatever that means. (US v Trump, 2024)
