January 6 “Insurrection”: an “official” act beyond the scrutiny of Congress and the people.

Finally, almost one week to the day of a media disaster called a Presidential debate before an audience of 50 million plus households, an elected Democrat did something positive to fight for democracy. Today, Rep. Alexandria Octavio-Cortez stated on X that she will bring to the floor of Congress articles of impeachment against one or more Supreme Court Justices.

Referring to the Supreme Court 6–3 decision in the case Donald J. Trump v the United States, granting the President of the United States, ‘total and qualified immunity’ in committing crimes while performing “official acts,” Octavio-Cortez wrote on X:

“Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture,” she wrote on the social platform X. “I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return.” (1)

In light of the immunity decision and the unforced “administrative” delay of 100 plus days in the January 6 case, the Supreme Court has effectively halted the prosecution of Donald Trump for his role in the January 6 assault on the Capitol and attempted violent interference with the peaceful transfer of power.
