On the same day military troops were being deployed to San Diego, President 47 and First Lady deployed to Los Angeles to view the ongoing wildfire destruction. One deployment was in response to a fabulous assessment that there is an illegal immigrant invasion occurring on America’s southern border; the other was at the invitation of the Governor of California.
The day reeked of dominance and executive authority. Missing were hostages of these maneuvers, real people, real victims, real citizens. Later on Friday, Pete Hegseth would be approved by the Senate to serve as the next Secretary of the Defense in a calculated move to shore up executive authority vested in the title of “Commander in Chief,” and an attempt by the administration to realign America’s defense reinforcement with “meritocracy” as distinct from democracy. The day demonstrated to the America public a polis unraveling, in need of another form of reinforcement — why are we here?
Earlier on Friday, Air Force One touched down in Asheville, North Carolina, a victim, as President 47 would announce repeatedly, of FEMA neglect in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
