An opera in six acts.

Act 1: What are we doing, January 20?

Consider:

“I am not a lawyer”… and T**** escaped accountability.

“I am not an economist” … and billionaires are dictating the government agenda.

I don’t follow the news” … and a twice impeached convicted felon is commander in chief.

“We are in uncharted waters” … and I am in denial of surrendering to authoritarianism.

Act 2: Who is Running the Show?

“Walk around in Scranton.” He (Sen. Jon Fetterman) told me last November, “and tell me what an oligarch is.” — Jess Bidgood, “Democrats frame Trump’s friends as foes,” On Politics, January 17, 2025, nytdirect@nytimes.com

During the Senate Finance Committee confirmation hearings of Scott Bessent Sen. Bernie Sanders asked Mr. Bessent, are we living in a oligarchy and do you support increasing the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15? His answer, “Leave it up to the states,” was an artful dodge, which even as Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. Bessent is incapable of dictating,

His Senate confirmation is assured.

Table for a minute that we are well beyond this type of reflection and consider that America is bereft of a real opposition.
