Kamala Harris for the People
Day Four of the Democratic National Convention: Vice President Harris accepts her party’s nomination for 47th President of the United States
At one moment during ‘Day Four’ of the Democratic National Convention, actor Kerry Washington enlisted the help of Kamala Harris’s two nieces in coaching the attendees in how to pronounce their auntie’s first name. One side of the United Center audience was instructed to yell “Comma,” the other “La” as in ‘Tra la La.’ The audience conceit worked not only to rally the attendees but also to include the 30 million nationwide viewers.
Consider this moment like several others during the evening’s proceedings as a reference to FAMILY as in ‘extended family,’ as in INCLUSION.
As in ‘nobody is gonna’ be left out.’
The moment also served to instill respect for the first black woman candidate who would later accept her party’s nomination to the President of the United States.
Now everybody can pronounce her name.
The theme of the evening’s narrative was “Freedom for Our Future.” Read ‘patriotism,’ as in ‘freedom that can’t be taken away.’ The convention delegates soaked it up.
A memorable a Capella rendition of the national anthem was delivered by the Chicks. PINK followed with “What About Us.”
