With the motive of reorganizing USAID as a political arm of the new administration, the executive branch has suspended the activities of America’s independent foreign assistance agency.

The soon-to-be-confirmed triumvirate of Patel, Bondi and Gabbard resembles the stirrings of an American police state. Opposition and resistance will be rebranded as ‘terrorism’. Due process will be suspended. What looks like a system of financial harassment and suffering for those who are labelled “woke” and who exhibit a shred of dissent is evolving as one reads this paragraph.

While America watches — and has watched — freedoms are being assaulted, not for the first time in her history. But it is precisely this notion — that America has a history of civil unrest and division — that is being suppressed. Once history and redundancy are buried, the mind is open to normalizing loss of freedom to speak, assemble, protest, protect — in effect abandoning the principles that identify America and her citizens.

Our neighbors have known this state of affairs for a while now. But we didn’t listen to them, shielded by a misplaced “exceptionalism,” a global military presence, and a surrogate political system.
