Day Two of the Democratic National Convention.
Compared to ‘Day One’, ‘Day Two’ of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago started out resembling the same old ‘politics as spectator sport.’ Gone seemed the urgency of Monday evening’s defining the terrain of sustaining democracy.
And then Day Two got down to the business of forging a path to November victory.
First, convention attendees were treated to a host of Republican Party stalwarts, fleeing Trump and MAGA world. Next, Democratic women pioneers shared their narrative, followed by state delegates delivering from the floor success stories as they nominated for a second time Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as their 2024 Presidential ticket.
A good portion of the night belonged to the idea of women ‘taking the stage.’ If Day One elevated the message of “passing of the torch,” Day Two clarified the notion that women had arrived and would define the outcome of the 2024 election.
The women delivered.
We heard former communications director for Melania Trump, Stephanie Grisham, retell “firsthand” the Capitol insurrection of January 6, 2021 and her courageous act of resigning on the spot. We heard from a sampling of women leaders in politics — Angela Alsobrooks, Democratic nominee for the U. S. Senate from Maryland; New Mexico Governor, Michelle Lujan…
