Exploding the myth of “bi-partisan”

Is there a raison d’etre for “bi-partisan? What would that be?

And what does “bi-partisan” mean exactly?

What is ascribed categorically as being “bi-partisan” are decisions which emanate from the maneuvering of politicians. This much we know. What we don’t know is troubling.

We don’t know consistency, relatedness, what’s being sold, what is the sacrifice. Our favorite political influencers echo that sui generis, if it’s “bi-partisan,” it’s good for the common weal.

In a fractured society of unequals, evoking “bi-partisan” is like a putting a salve on torn flesh: the future is not one of healing, making “whole.”

One “side” will bear the sacrifice. Or already has.

Without knowing what is “partisan” before we were introduced to “bi-partisan,” we are suspicious. Is there a menu lurking somewhere beyond our consciousness? An agenda? A conspiracy?

Cognitive science tells us is that the act of vision encompasses the mind’s ability to distinguish: “What you get is what you see.”

Language reveals and language hides. Let’s reign in our use of “bi-partisan.” As a farmer friend once advised, “don’t be cute, be honest.”
