Election 2020: Pandering to the “Latino Vote”

In 2016 Florida decided the outcome of the Presidential election. In 2020 Florida may decide whom Trump will nominate to the Supreme Court this week.

With Florida’s nagging reach into the political diaspora both Presidential candidates are in Florida this week courting “Hispanic voters.”

Expect the twin issues of pandemic and economy ringing throughout this southern state. A collective vision for America will be parked out of reach. No union invocations here:.

Florida the “battleground state.” Florida the seething background for Didion’s “Miami.” Florida the sorry state of 2000 that delivered Bush a spectral victory by way of the Electoral College.

Who’s really worried about Latin voters? Not a rhetorical question for Julian Castro, retired candidate for Democratic nominee for President, who recently warned Democrats not to write off Latino issues in 2020.

In a recent video “bona fide,” Chuck Schumer obligingly gave over the podium to Congresswoman AOC to share in giving the Democrats response to Trump and McConnell steamrolling the Supreme Court vacancy nomination.

Another retired Presidential candidate voice, Beto O’Rorke spoke to uniting Latin and youth voters in divisive Texas. Perhaps O’Rorke and Castro have the “last word” for the establishment in Washington:

Latin voters are smarter — and better — than this.
