Election 2020: ‘Nobody’ won last night…

Except Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Biden OR Trump may have 4 years. McConnell has 6.

Trump — if he wins — will be staring down 4 years of slowly dimming TV kleig lights and Twitter blocks. All eyes on ‘24. Little Ivanka and little Don Jr. are arrested. Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Ted Cruz, Tucker Carlson? Really? You get the picture.

Biden — if he wins — will be tasked as “Restorer-in-Chief,” facing a damaged economy on life-support and a sickened populace across every matrix — morally, psychologically and physically. If you don’t get this picture, stand in the COVID-19 test queue.

But McConnell? He can actually CONTINUE to do real damage to governance in America. With an immanent Republican Senate majority and an eye on big donor money, McConnell emerges with a dangerous mandate : disenfranchise Democrats and their ability to govern. Think “The Hunger Games.”

Here’s a clue of what we can expect.

During the 2012 Congressional debate on funding recovery efforts after Hurricane Sandy, a Republican legislator was challenged about her voting record:

“Why are you voting against relief funding for Hurricane Sandy affected states when you voted in favor for federal disaster funds for your state?”

Answer: “I thought we were the ‘party of fiscal responsibility.’”

Fast forward to November, 2020 and the ‘Second Round’ Stimulus Bill, marooned on McConnell’s desk. Sound familiar?

This is more than a partisan trope but a window into McConnell’s strategic thinking. Many states have balanced budget protocols which prohibit them from deficit spending. McConnell’s defunding strategy pointing the hypocritical finger at Democratic governance and pension funding is cruel and discriminatory.

Yesterday’s conservative judges are tomorrow’s hobbled cities.
